Devlog day 1
Today we had to come up with an idea for our game, if you think it's very simple, you'll be right. Coming up with 101 mechanics in 3D and multiplayer on top of that is easy, but how to implement it in such a short time?
Every time we participate in jams, we resort to the Brainstorming method to come up with an idea. Here's how it works for us. After the jam topic is announced, we go to Miro and write our ideas, it doesn't matter what kind of ideas they are, the main thing is that there are a lot of them and they are diverse. After a lot of ideas appear on the board, we start evaluating them, everyone expresses their opinion. If we can't choose from the proposed ideas right away, then we start combining them. In this case, our game designer had long wanted to try to implement the Beat 'em up mechanics, we added a 2D to 3D game view and tweaked it all with the fact that we play as a parasite in a human body, if you don't understand anything, it's not scary, our game will be released soon and you'll be able to check it out. Honestly, this day was hard, because we couldn't come to a common idea, but we still did and this is the merit of the team, not one specific person. As part of the jam, the sooner you decide what kind of game you will make, the better. After we decided what kind of idea it would be, we had to think through all the details and describe in detail what is needed for the game. The very first thing we write is the Logic of the game: it includes all the mechanics and their connections with each other. This is a very important point, since until you agree with the team how the mechanics will work in your game, you cannot let other guys do their tasks. This is the end of the day, tomorrow we will write out the Technical Assignment (hereinafter TA) and give it to the guys to complete.
Some tips:
1. Miro is a very convenient tool for brainstorming, you can write, insert pictures and GIFs on this online board.
2. Assign a person responsible for the idea. When there are many people in the team, it can be difficult to decide which idea will be the best, for this we need a person responsible for the idea, who will make a key decision at the most crucial moment, preferably a game designer.
3. Don't be afraid to offer stupid or crazy ideas, that's why we take part in the jam, to make unusual games that will be fun and memorable.
