Devlog Final

So the jam has come to an end. For me, this is the 4th jam in the team. He was quite incomprehensible and nervous. If you've played our game, you might have noticed that it's slightly (very slightly) unfinished, buggy, and so on. We know that we could have done better, but it turned out the way it turned out. After the game was published, a game designer and a Sound Designer were hired. This is not to say that this jam is a complete failure, but I am grateful that fate shows where there are weaknesses in my team organization system. After we invested the game in jam, the team and I got together in the evening and summed up the week. Everyone said what they didn't like about the jam, and I tried to cheer the guys up by noticing that something good happened on the jam, because if you don't do this, they'll have a very bad fixation after the jam - "That they can't do anything and jams are bad." Regardless of the result of the jam, let everyone speak out and if someone starts belittling the merits of another person, then you need to stop them immediately and explain why they are wrong. People often look for those to blame if something doesn't work out, this is a protective mechanism of the psyche and this must be taken into account when organizing a team.
The difficulties we are facing:
- It's too experimental an idea. From the very beginning, the guys wanted to try to make a 2.5D game with a Beat ’em up action game. Although I wrote in the first Devlogs that you shouldn't experiment too much on jam, I didn't follow this rule myself. As a result, we wrote code for a long time, made an incomprehensible architecture that worked poorly. We couldn't adjust the shadows properly. Our picture doesn't look good (although the guys in the comments to the game say they got a visual) We conclude: do what you are sure of for jam, experiments should not be drastic.
- The second rule, which I wrote about and which I did not follow. It doesn't take too much. In my defense, due to the fact that we were making a 2.5D game, it was not clear until the end of the jam how much work the game would have. But this is how I repeat my failure. As a result, almost all the sounds that Sound Designer tried so hard to make were not added to the game (More than 16 sounds, it really hurts me to write this number), and a messenger with Someone Else was not added. Not to mention the bugs. We conclude: Be sure that you will do the project 100%, because I was not sure from the very beginning.
- Still, as much as I don't want to admit it, but for each team, you need to choose your own person. It is very important that there is a "Chemistry" between the people in the team, everyone respects each other and helps each other. I also worked with different types of employees (this is a valuable experience) and realized that different types fit or do not fit each other in different ways. We conclude that you should carefully select your team.
- As I said in other Devlogs, I couldn't organize my work using the Jira tool, maybe because of this I couldn't see the full picture of the game. We conclude that All new applications should be introduced at the beginning of the jam, so that it becomes a habit for the team.
Despite the result, I am very grateful to every member of the team. After each jam, we have a tradition, I say pleasant words to each team member. I've already told them personally, but I'll briefly duplicate them here anyway.:
2D Аrtist Zhenya - Thank you so much for being able to draw us these wonderful locations and characters. Despite the result, it is very pleasant to look at this beauty that you were able to make.
2d Artist Lion - Thank you very much for being able to animate the characters of our game. Playing the game, I feel like every character has a character. You've managed to convey the dynamics of movement through your animations. Even though you got sick, you were able to finish working on the game.
Sound Designer Gosha - Thank you very much for your sounds. Although people have noted in the comments that the music doesn't quite fit the game, I think I'm making compositions blindly (he made music before the game itself existed. Although it's right to do the game from the beginning, and then the music) he has improved a lot in his musical skills. I also see how you progress when you write music, with each game you make, you make sounds cooler and cooler. Every sound has its own story, which means it's a piece of that person's soul, and I'll always remember that.
Narrative Game Designer Senya - Thank you for coming up with and thinking through the idea of the game, it's very cool that there is such a person who can just come up with and develop ideas like a machine gun. We've already made more than one game with you, and I hope we'll do more.
Technical Game Designerr Sergey - Thank you very much for putting this game together in Unity. I can't even imagine the difficulties you faced while doing this project. Most of the time he was trying to figure out 2.5D, and that's worth respecting. I know that you were the most disappointed in our game, but I think this is just the beginning of our journey and it's just a small drop in the ocean, ahead of us lies a great ocean of adventures and joint victories. Despite all the difficulties, you didn't give up making the game even when you already realized that you wouldn't make it, you fought to the end and we appreciate it.
Programmer Alexander - Thank you very much for making us a working code. He's a very busy person and could only spend 3 hours a day on jam, but I can say with confidence that he did everything possible to make the game as stable and productive as possible.
I hope you've read this far. This is the latest Devlog of this game. Our Technical Game Designer was disappointed in this game and decided that he would not finish it. We don't condemn him, we draw conclusions and move on. Thanks to everyone who read all the blogs. Special thanks to those who comment on the game, your feedback helps us a lot. Unexpectedly for me, even on an unfinished game, I saw warm comments, it can not but rejoice. Thank you all, good luck!!!
